Random thought in the middle of the night: Digest 4 - Weigh your words

Aren't Gubernatorial and Ombudsman very FAT words? No, I dont mean long but fat. Every time I hear these two, they sound positively corpulent.

Wonder why.

Are there any others? Or skinny words for that matter?

Not sure about this, but could it be because (as Indians) we tend to stress consecutive syllables in the words you have mentioned?

  7. Hyde - slim and all dont count. they mean thin no.

anon - hmmm maybe you are right. never thought its because of the cadence actually.

n - anything to do with the letters you reckon? k is a skinny alphabet and something like b is fat?

epiphany - partly that, partly am in some space cadet mode for the last couple of months. like being high on lack of sleep or something hehe.

G - ah yes. maudlin is very feminine

  8. stylus, silhouette, thimble, slip, creek - they all sound thin!
While porcupine, pompous, poppadom , gobsmacking [albeit a slang], toboggan, omnivorous - have a nice rounded feel - making them sound like words with "well - rounded" personalities!
